Material Illusions by Sophie Rowley

Sophie Rowley’s Material Illusions collection has transformed the every day mundane materials into a surprising collection of materials that questions our relationship with materiality. Her collection aims to unify a collection of synthetic materials to simulate an aesthetic that we know from nature. Working with common materials such as demin, paper and glass and reworked them to take on the appearance of natural forms. The aim of her project was to examine our relationship with materials in particular finite materials whereby in the future we may no longer have the luxury of extracting virgin materials and questions whether we should be embracing an engineered man made nature?
